Queer and Questioning Youth Group   Why do we have a section about being gay on a violence      prevention website?

Because gay kids are still not totally safe in our society.

At school, gay kids are often bullied, harassed, or intimidated. Being gay can mean facing violence and discrimination just for being who you are.

Walk down the halls of many schools, and you'll hear "fag", and "you're gay" (intended as an insult) all too often. Being homophobic continues to be acceptable for many people.

Being gay can also mean facing the same violence at home, again just for being who you are.

So this section is intended to confront the problem. To open minds and hearts. And to make sure that gay youth have a voice and support from the community

In Survive, you'll find information and discussions about being queer in our society.

In Expressions, you'll find more personal stuff, like poems and art by gay/lesbian/bisexual and trans youth.
