The Violence Intervention Project is a violence prevention program that engages and mobilizes youth to contribute their ideas, energy and solutions to address growing concerns regarding school and community safety. This youth engagement program provides youth with the opportunity and capacity to effect positive change in their schools and communities, and is based on a best practice approach that incorporates skill development, experiential learning and education.
The goal of the Violence Intervention Project is to reduce youth violence by engaging and mobilizing marginalized youth in creating safer schools and communities through training, skill development and civic participation.
The program focuses on developing skills in the area of problem solving, conflict resolution, communication, public speaking, negotiation, assertiveness and decision making. Youth are encouraged to take leadership roles in developing violence prevention initiatives within their school or community. The program engages youth through knowledge, skill development and opportunities for involvement in pro-social activities.
